Cooling fans believe that we are all familiar with it, computers, water dispensers, refrigerators, air conditioners, air purifiers, cars and so on inside will have its figure, is a very popular cooling equipment in many industries, "cooling fan" is actually just a generic term for many kinds of fans, so what are the specific classification of cooling fans?

Axial flow fans

Axial fans are a class of cooling fans in which the impeller of an axial fan pushes the air to flow in the same direction as the shaft. The impeller of an axial fan is similar to a spiral slurry. When it works, most of the gas flow is parallel to the shaft, in other words, along the shaft. The power consumption of an axial fan is lowest when the incoming gas flow is free air with zero static pressure. During operation, power consumption increases as the back pressure of the gas flow rises. Axial fans are usually installed in the cabinet of electrical equipment, sometimes integrated with the motor. Due to their compact construction, they save a lot of space and are easy to install, so they are widely used.

Centrifugal fans

When a fan is centrifugal, the impeller pushes the air in a direction perpendicular to the shaft. The incoming air is along the axial direction, while the outgoing air is perpendicular to the axial direction. In most cases, cooling can be achieved by applying an axial fan. However, sometimes a centrifugal cooling fan must be applied if the gas flow needs to rotate ninety degrees or if greater air pressure is required. Technically speaking, cooling fans are also centrifugal cooling fans.

Mixed-flow fans

A mixed-flow cooling fan is also known as an oblique flow cooling fan. At first glance, a mixed-flow cooling fan is not different from an axial-flow fan. In fact, the inlet of a mixed-flow cooling fan is along the axis, but the outlet is along the diagonal orientation of the axis and the vertical axis. Since the impeller and housing of this cooling fan are called conical, the air pressure is higher. The centrifugal cooling fan is less noisy than the axial fan for the same size and other comparative performance.

Cross-flow fans

A tubular airflow creates a massive airflow and is usually used to cool the massive surface of the equipment. The inlet and outlet of a cooling fan are perpendicular to the shaft. Cross-flow cooling fans work by applying relatively long barrel-shaped cooling fan impellers. The barrel fan blades have a larger diameter. Due to the larger diameter, lower speeds can be applied to ensure natural ventilation throughout, reducing the noise caused by high speed operation.
